License Notification If you plan to get a Texas Educator Certificate after graduating, you need to know a criminal offense—conviction or deferred adjudication for a felony or misdemeanor offense—may limit your ability to receive a certificate.
Texas Wesleyan University does not perform criminal history background checks. However, you will be subject to a criminal history background check by the Texas Education Agency when applying for Texas teacher certification. An applicant with a significant criminal history may be denied certification. The State of Texas will make all final determinations as to whether a candidate is eligible for teacher certification.
If you are unsure about whether a past offense will affect your ability to become a certified teacher, go to the link below for additional information about requesting a preliminary background check. For more information, see our policy.
